Nelly features long, slender, dark blue-green leaves that instantly add fresh, but subtle, onion flavor to almost any dish, excellent fresh or cooked. The plant has a uniform, upright habit, and in midsummer, it produces round, lilac-colored blooms that not only add ornamental value to the garden but also make pretty and edible garnishes.
Hardy and vigorous, this drought tolerant perennial adapts to a wide variety of soils and can be easily grown in pots or perennial borders. And once this disease and pest resistant chive is up and growing, it is nearly indestructible.
